Dive review by Paul Daley
Aquaventurers had a get together dive at Criccieth beach in North Wales. We met on the beach, which took about 2 hours travelling time. There was a good turn out of about 10 people, including some new faces which are always welcome.
The beach was made up of pebbles and shale, but the local Life Boat station very kindly allowed us to use their slipway, which made life a lot easier. We were informed to expect around 8-10m depth, but we could only find 4-5m.
This wasn't all bad though, as the shallow nature meant that the natural light was very good, even though the viz was only 2-3m. The bottom was a mixture of rock, pebble, and sand, with the rocky area similar to the 'reef' at Trefor Pier for those familiar with it.
There was lots of life including wrasse, crabs, and even a 3ft dogfish. The water temp was 15 Deg, making the 1 hour dive comfortable, even for those in semi-dry's. There is some boat and jet-ski traffic after mid-day, so an SMB is required.
After the dive, it was back onto the beach for one of Paula's famous (or is that infamous) BBQ's. The chops were brilliant, much to the envy of the locals. Overall it was a good day out, and a dive recommended for anyone looking for a relaxing, fairly undemanding dive, especially for those bored with quarries.
